All nursing home residents are assessed for risk of falls. A care plan must be developed to protect the resident from falls. A resident with a high risk of falling may require one or two person assist when getting out of bed, walking or standing. Beds may have to be adjusted as to height and the resident may need protectors to avoid falling out of bed. Fractures in the elderly can be dehabilitating and lead to death.
